Relationship Reflection

Relationship Reflection

"Human relationships, and the effects of relationships on relationships, are the building blocks of healthy development" (Shonkoff & Phillips, 2000, p. 4).
In course of our lives, we meet new people everyday and with some, we leave an imprint and wish to continue the relationship. It is quiet impossible to create strong relationship bond with each and every person we know. But for some reasons either it be common interests, intuition, or by nature, we keep certain relationship strong and consistent. Likewise, I also have formed and maintained several important relationships in my life. Being away from family every since kindergarten made me a strong person and the separation anxiety was never my issue. At that time, I took life as it is…Even though I would see my parents once a year; I had strong heart to heart connections with them and with my other family members, which is more important in keeping the relationship strong. Even now my families are all over the place, some in Nepal, and some in United State in different states, but with our ongoing family values and norms, we are able to support each other and spread the love, and help each other when in needs.

One important and special relationship I have is with Soo-Yin, PhD, who was my academy advisor during undergraduate school. We are still in touch with each other. Besides my family and friends, she is one of the most influential and inspirational people in my life. I have known her for now 8 years and we still have that strong bond of teacher-student, mother-daughter, friend-friend relationship…When I need the guidance, she is the one who is able to understand me the most and always have ways to help and guide me towards the right directions.

Friendship is something that never ends...along the roadblocks, we come to many faces in life and we need someone besides family members or adults to share our feelings and excitement. I have many great friends with whom I share many important value of life. I have good set of friends with whom I share personal as well as professional matters. Friendship is a beautiful journey and I believe being there when needed is the most important aspect of friendship…

  1. Thank you for sharing the video. What great insight and a beautiful tribute to the people that are important in your life. You are a very strong individual for being so far from your family and achieving so much. It takes a special kind of person. I am sure that your abilities translate into your professional world and make it much easier for you to understand families of many different types. You may be able to relate to people on a completely different level as you have traveled around the world, lived separately from your family, and likely faced language and cultural barriers. You will be sure to make a tremendous difference in the lives of many children and families.

  3. Thank you for sharing about your support system. I think that you have a very strong support system and that you are close to them despite the distance. Keep these relationships because it is so important to have people in your life. Your experiences also will help you because you will be able to relate to children and families that have a cultural barrier.
